Tuomas Tuominen - Voice

Other bands:
Noumena (clean vocals, session and live) The legendary desert boogie band Kaj Gustafsson Explosion

I like all kinds of things, smells and sounds that just bother to come down my way. Notice, however, that my tastes vary by the minute and I easily convert into liking all sorts of different things like rubber boots, wasting my time at anything unproductive, music that people are kind enough to bring me, strange flavors – you get the point. Sometimes some things just work for me, and it's all good.

These are some of the bands and artists I dig:
The Hellacopters, New Model Army, Paradise Lost, Aretha Franklin, Hydromatics, Wilson Pickett, Moonspell, Spiritual Beggars, Opeth, Radio Birdman, Carcass, Entombed, MC5, Katatonia, Alice in Chains, The Cult, Sonic's Rendezvous Band.

These I like to read:
Helsingin Sanomat, Thomas Pynchon, Gabriel García Marquez, Franz Kafka.

And these I have enjoyed watching:
Songs From the Second Floor [Roy Andersson] , Naked [Mike Leigh] , The Quiet American [Phillip Noyce] , Jackie Brown [Quentin Tarantino] , anything by Pedro Almodovar, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas [Terry Gilliam] , The Man Without A Past [Aki Kaurismäki] .

Here we have some of the most essential cornerstones in my music collection. They aren´t in any particular order.

New Model Army has perhaps affected me most. Their music is so honest and sincere with no glamour whatsoever. Bass driven songs combined with Justin Sullivan´s brilliant voice. That´s all you need.

The Mission made four amazing albums in 80´s and after that bunch of ”not so great” albums.

The Smiths : Johnny Marr is a guitar hero at least in my point of view. There is nothing wrong with Morrissey either.

Big Country : ”Is that a bagpipe? No. It´s a guitar that sounds like one.”

The Pogues is a band that everyone should listen to. This planet would be much better place to live on. Shane MacGowan is a sight (with or without his teeth).

It seems that Värttinä is a band that everyone hates in Finland. I kind of disliked them too but when I actually heard their Aitara-album, I had to reconsider my opinion. What professional musicians they are. There should be no room for goddamn prejudices…

The Cure is such a controversial band to me because they have lots of great songs but on the other side they have songs that I simply don´t understand at all. Anyway their bright moments are so magnificent that their name deserves to be mentioned in this list.

Carcass is (or was) the king of "kick-ass rock". There is still a huge hole in the metal scene which Carcass left behind. I miss you dear Carcass.

Dark Tranquillity gave me the idea of combining beautiful melodies with harsh metal rubbish.

Katatonia has made nothing but superb albums. Many years ago I heard ”Without God” on the radio and from that moment on I have always been anxious to hear from them.

Dead Can Dance is the master of atmosphere. Timeless music
